About Us

Swetha Kishore, aged 22, post graduation left her software job to pursue her dreams of starting a small cafe. It all started with a cloud kitchen at her grandmother's terrace space, where online orders were taken through Instagram. She recorded her entire journey on instagram where she was learning to makes cakes from mug cakes to complex wedding cakes through self-learning and few baking classes around the country. 

News and Media covered her creations where she was becoming recognised for her work. Swetha, then expanded to a bigger 850 sq ft space in Kilpauk in 2019 where she continued to take only online orders and orders from close friends and relatives. Through word of mouth, she got calls from Masterchef India in 2021 and planned to compete in the same with her innovative desserts but couldn't go further into the competition where she lost to challenging cooking rounds. 


With her experience, Swetha also took baking classes on the weekends where she taught budding bakers, basics of baking and wedding cake courses. After Masterchef, Swetha built her contacts and wanted to improve her cooking experience by starting a restaurant of her own. She then started her restaurant in March 2023 along with her bakery where she kept innovating new dishes and ideas. This became a family owned business from coffee to cakes, burgers and more, the restaurant named "Lafayette by Mug Cakes" is now extremely popular among couples and families, including young adults as well! Mug Cakes is now opening their wings to franchise to other aspiring women entrepreneurs as well!
