Mug Cakes now branched out as two thriving restaurants in Nungambakkam - “Lafayette” having 85 seats with a cozy continental menu, started in 2023 and “Stairway to Nirvanaa” having 130 seats with a widespread multi-cuisine menu, started in 2025. Supplying breads, desserts and cakes to both restaurants, our team has been the backbone of the brand.

Swetha Kishore

Swetha Kishore, aged 22. Post graduation left her software job to pursue her dreams of starting a small cafe. It all started with a cloud kitchen on her grandmother's terrace. where online orders were taken through Instagram. She recorded her entire journey on Instagram where she was learning to make cakes from mug cakes to complex wedding cakes through self-learning and a few baking classes around the country.

News and Media covered her creations, where she was becoming recognised for her work. Swetha then expanded to a bigger 850 sq ft space in Kilpauk in 2019, where she continued to take only online orders and orders from close friends and relatives. Through word of mouth,She got calls from Masterchef India in 2021 and planned to compete in the same. With her innovative desserts, but couldn't go further into competition, where she lost to challenging cooking rounds, With her experience, Swetha also took baking classes on the weekends where she taught budding bakers, the basics of baking and wedding cake courses. After MasterChef, Swetha built her contacts and wanted to improve her cooking experience by starting a restaurant of her own. She then started her restaurant in March 2023, along with her bakery, where she kept innovating new dishes and ideas. This became a family-owned business, from coffee to cakes, burgers, and more.

The restaurant named "Lafayette by Mug Cakes" is now extremely popular among couples and families, including young adults as well! Mug Cakes is now opening its wings to franchise to other aspiring women entrepreneurs as well!

Chef Jeshvant, the head of the Pastry Department, is a pastry chef who passed out from Institute of Hotel Management Pondicherry, trained in curating unique desserts for both our restaurants, making all kinds of puddings, french pastry, tarts, cheesecakes, mousse, fruit desserts and more. He is also well-versed in chocolates and bon bons, teaching students at Lafayette Academy on how to make intricate desserts & great pastry.

Chef Kishore Kumar, the head of Cake Decoration, is an icing artist, who helps with frosting the best cakes in town. With 5 years of icing experience, his neat and clean finish on whipped cream, buttercream and fondant cakes has brought our customers back for more. Chef also teaches our students at Lafayette Academy on how to frost commercial cakes and make unique chocolate decor to sell at their own bakeries. Chef Kishore is also highly skilled in French Macarons, making all macarons for both our restaurants as well.

Chef Andrews, the head of the Pattisiere , is a Fondant Cake Artist, with 12 years of work experience, making handmade toys, flowers and jaw-dropping sugar flowers and is also a Barista by profession, helping us set our coffee standards at both our restaurants too

Chef Rajesh, the head of the Breads Department has 15+ years of work experience in breads, and now bakes all kinds of breads for both our restaurants & also teaches students how to bake breads from home at the newly opened “Lafayette Academy” started in 2026.
